Cross Country Continues Season with Two Meets Saturday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Asheville's men's and women's cross country teams will compete in two meets Saturday. Some members from each team will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for the USC Upstate Invitational, while the remaining team members will travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Greater Louisville Classic.
Last Time Out – Montreat College Dual Meet
UNC Asheville Cross Country competed against Montreat in a dual meet on September 14 after the USC Upstate Eye Opener was postponed the night before due to weather.
In the women's portion of the event, the Bulldogs defeated the Cavaliers with 23 total points. Montreat took the individual top spot, but Clara Wincheski paced the Bulldogs with a second place finish with a time of 18:38.
Madeline Nichols and India Appleton completed the event with third and fourth place finishes. Morgan Costelloe and Ashley Tysiac rounded out the top 10 finishes for the Bulldogs with sixth and eighth place finishes, respectively.
As a team, the Bulldogs averaged a time of 19:22.
In the men's portion of the event, the Bulldogs defeated Montreat with a total of 16 points. Thomas Little claimed the top spot with a time of 15:11. Graham Parker was right on his heels with a second place finish that featured a time of 15:13. Sage Turner and Zach Boone rounded out the top five finishes for the Bulldogs with third and fourth place finishes.
John Ciprich finished in sixth place, while James Clabo and Tom Germann took ninth and tenth place finishes.
As a team, the Bulldog men averaged a time of 15:25.
About the USC Upstate Invitational
The USC Upstate Invitational will take place at the Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C. located adjacent to the campus of USC Upstate. The women will race on a 5K course, while the men will compete on an 8K course. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
About the Greater Louisville Classic
Saturday will mark the 18th annual Greater Louisville Classic and will be held at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The men will race in the 8k Gold event beginning at 9:30 a.m., with the women following at 10:15 a.m. in the 5k Gold event. For all the meet information, please click HERE. The Bulldogs will be back in action, Friday, October 18, when they compete in the Vertcross Invitational hosted by High Point.
