10.10.2019 | Women's Volleyball

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's volleyball team hits the road for its first of three-straight weekends away from home, as it travels to Hampton for a 6 p.m., Friday, contest before taking on Campbell in a 2 p.m., Saturday matchup.

The Bulldogs (7-6, 2-1 Big South) are coming off a weekend in which they split two matches at the Justice Center, falling to Big South Conference-leader Winthrop, 3-0, last Friday, before rebounding to take down Gardner-Webb in dominating fashion, 3-0, Saturday.

Senior Julia Borges has been the Bulldogs' top option on offense, leading the team in kills (119) and points (150), and is tied for the team lead with nine service aces. She has contributed on the defensive end as well, leading the team with 33 total blocks, 11 solo blocks, and she's second with 139 digs.

Ansley Rooks has had a strong senior campaign as well and is second on the team in kills (113) and points (121.5), and she's third on the team in digs with 128. Sophomore Molly Hackett completes the trio of Bulldogs with more than 100 kills on the season, as she has 108, and is tied for the team lead with nine service aces.

Senior Kailey Hackett and sophomore Grace Volk have split time at setter, and after last weekend, both have eclipsed 200 assists on the season, recording 203 and 201, respectively.

Defensively, junior Kasey West leads the way with 164 total digs and 3.90 digs per set.

Hampton enters Friday's matchup at 5-9, but hasn't recorded a victory during Big South competition, most recently falling to High Point and Radford last weekend. Friday's matchup will be just the third of the season at home for the Pirates. They opened the season with a 3-0 victory against Norfolk State, but fell to Campbell, 3-1, September 28.

Campbell is 8-8 on the season and enters the weekend 2-1 in conference, tied with Asheville and Presbyterian for third in the conference. The Camels split their two matches last weekend, defeating Radford, 3-1, before falling to High Point, 3-0.
