UNC Asheville Athletics Holds Highly Successful 2018 BAA Scholarship Golf Classic

08.31.2018 | Athletics News

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – He knows it would not be possible without their support.

That's why senior baseball student-athlete Carmine Pagano made sure to thank everyone in attendance on the second day of the 2018 Bulldog Athletic Association Scholarship Golf Classic.

"We could not do this without you," Pagano told the large crowd in attendance.

The 2018 Bulldog Athletic Association Scholarship Golf Classic presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians was held Aug. 27 and 28 at The Country Club of Asheville.

The annual event raises scholarship money for the UNC Asheville Athletics Annual Scholarship Fund.

The 2018 edition of the BAA Scholarship Golf Classic featured 200 golfers and it is anticipated that this year's event raised over $105,000.

"Our golf committee does a tremendous job every year with this event," UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "All of this would not be possible without the great sponsors of our BAA Scholarship Golf Classic. For us to build champions and inspire leaders at UNC Asheville these efforts are crucial."

Cone also knows it takes a great deal to run events like the BAA Scholarship Golf Classic and she is thankful so many go above and beyond for the Bulldogs.

"Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to all of the participants and volunteers who have made this tournament such a great success over the years," Cone said. "It truly takes an 'A' team to make all of this happen, and all of those that help us with UNC Asheville athletics are definitely a part of our 'A' team. The funds raised directly benefit the Athletics Scholarship Fund and the investment in our student-athletes is something wonderful and special."
