Bulldogs Collect Sweep Over Coppin State to Open 2018 Season

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team started off the 2018 regular season the right way with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) victory over Coppin State at the Justice Center on Friday, Aug. 24.
UNC Asheville (1-0) finished the match hitting .277 as a team, while limiting Coppin State (0-1) to just .038 as a team.
Preseason All-Big South selection Cara Guthrie led the Bulldogs in the match with 13 kills and five digs. She hit an impressive .370 and also had two service aces.
UNC Asheville finished with 32 digs as a team in the match with Madisen Zyburt leading the way with nine.
UNC Asheville had six total team blocks in the match with Cecilia Stack and Julia Loveday leading the Bulldogs in the category with three each.
Kailey Hackett (15) and Carter Kennedy (12) paced the Bulldogs in assists. Kenneday also had six digs and a service ace, while Hackett had four digs and two service aces.
One of the best in the entire country last season in the category, the Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the season opener with eight aces as a team.

UNC Asheville continued its strong play at home with the season-opening win over Coppin State. UNC Asheville is now 27-8 over the last four seasons at home. The Bulldogs have now won eight of their last 10 at the Justice Center.
Saturday Schedule
It will be an action-packed Saturday at the Justice Center with four matches scheduled. The Bulldogs will first take on The Citadel of the Southern Conference at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25. UNC Asheville will close out its matches in the Asheville Invitational by facing Appalachian State of the Sun Belt at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25.
