CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team was awarded the 2018 Big South Conference Sportsmanship Award, which was announced by the league office on Thursday, Aug. 23.
"We talk quite a bit about how we want to represent our university, our program and our last name. I think our guys have done a great job being ambassadors for UNC Asheville and the community. We want to continue to do everything with class and dignity," said UNC Asheville baseball head coach Scott Friedholm.
The accolade is the second time the program has received the honor, with both under the fifth-year head coach.
Asheville returns a plethora of starters from last year's squad. Joining the 2019 team are 11 newcomers, which includes two left-handed pitchers, two right-handed pitchers, three two-way players, two infielders, one outfielder and one catcher.
UNC Asheville announced on Aug. 22 that it will be playing Southeastern Conference member and 2018 NCAA Tournament participant Georgia during its fall schedule. The fall exhibition is slated for Sunday, Oct. 14 at Foley Field in Athens, Ga. First pitch between the two Bulldog clubs is set for 2 p.m., and admission is free for all fans.
