ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville athletics officially welcomed back its 2018-19 student-athletes on Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Sherrill Center.

The annual "Welcome Back" event featured a special session on "What it Means to be a Bulldog."

"I am so excited to have our student-athletes back on campus," UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "We work hard as an athletics department to create impactful lifetime leaders and tonight we wanted to make sure to start by having some fun, but also reminding them exactly what it means to be a champion and a leader."

The special "Welcome Back" event orchestrated by Associate Athletics Director Terri Brne and Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Success Rebecca Nelms started with opening remarks from Cone.

Swimming student-athlete and 2018-19 UNC Asheville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President and national Big South SAAC Representative Elizabeth Conte then talked with the Bulldog student-athletes about SAAC.

Then the fun started with the UNC Asheville coaches and staff presenting special skits about "What it Means to be a Bulldog" to the student-athletes.

In addition, UNC Asheville student-athletes also had the unique opportunity to hear from Chancellor Dr. Nancy J. Cable and be introduced to all of the coaches and staff in attendance.

The special event closed with the 2018-19 UNC Asheville student-athletes taking the annual panoramic picture with all of the student-athletes in the picture.
