BAA Board Goes Above and Beyond by Feeding Student-Athletes on Tuesday Evening

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – It has felt like home ever since she stepped on campus.
Never was that more evident to first-year head women's soccer coach Lindsay Vera than while the Bulldog Athletic Association (BAA) Board was helping to feed her team along with the other UNC Asheville fall athletic teams that are in preseason camp right now.
"To me, especially as a newcomer, it makes me feel a lot more welcomed," Vera said. "There is such a sense of a warm vibe here at UNC Asheville. To see the members of our BAA Board in person and to see what they are doing for the student-athletes, I am super grateful. I know their support trickles down to our players, and the more support we have, obviously the better our season goes."
The special opportunity provided to the UNC Asheville student-athletes by the BAA Board on Tuesday, Aug. 14, opened with chair Bill Newman talking with everyone in attendance.
After Newman spoke, Carter Kennedy of volleyball, Bella Iorio of women's soccer and Matthew Barrera of cross country each thanked all of the BAA Board members for all they do for UNC Asheville athletics.
The student-athletes were then treated to a special catered meal by corporate partner Twisted Laurel. Each table during the special dinner featured Bulldog student-athletes and at least one BAA Board member.
Newman was thrilled to have the chance for the BAA Board to give back in this way, but also for the interaction it afforded with the Bulldog student-athletes.
"It's an opportunity that we have to be out on the front lines and show them that we care for them, but it's also an opportunity for us to meet these wonderful young people," Newman said. "For our board to be a part of that, it shows more involvement by us being here."
