04.09.2018 | Baseball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Freshman infielder Cody Wilson was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on Monday, April 9, following his five-hit series versus Presbyterian at Greenwood Field.

Wilson appeared in three games this past week, which included a pair of starts. He opened the three-game series versus the Blue Hose by setting two single-game career highs in hits (3) and runs scored (3). He wasn't originally slated to start the series opener, but he capitalized on the early substitution by smacking a double and two RBIs.

He capped off the three-game home set with a hit and a run scored in each of the final two games.

He currently sports a four-game run scored stretch, which marks the longest active runs scored stretch on the team.

Following his five-hit series, Wilson doubled his batting average on the year.

The honor marks the first career accolade for Wilson. The Freshman of the Week award marks the third time a Bulldogs has won the honor, as both Chris Troost and Brandon Lankford won the accolade last season.

Wilson and the Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, April 10, as UNC Asheville squares off with USC Upstate at 6 p.m. at Greenwood Field.
