Wilson, Gasparro Honored With Weekly Big South Conference Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Danny Wilson was named Big South Conference Player of the Week, and sophomore Greg Gasparro was tabbed the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.
The league officially announced the awards on Monday, April 30.
Wilson went 6-for-14 in the four-game week for Asheville. He started all four games and connected with three extra-base hits (two doubles and a home run).
To open the week, he connected with a double versus North Carolina Central. He also walked twice and swiped his third stolen base on the year. Following a one-hit game to open the Gardner-Webb series, the junior went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, double and single. He also earned two RBIs and two runs scored in the two-run win over the Runnin' Bulldogs. To cap off the four-game week, Wilson smacked the game-winning hit for Asheville, which was a two RBI double in the eighth inning.
Overall, Wilson improved his batting average by 16 points in the four-game stretch.
Gasparro started and led UNC Asheville to the 3-1 victory on Saturday versus the Runnin' Bulldogs. He worked 5.2 innings, where he only allowed four hits. He did not surrender a run and struck out three batters. He limited opponents to a .200 batting average and dropped his ERA to a respectable 4.33 on the year.
Aside from his dominance on the mound, he connected with three hits in the four-start week. Highlighting his offensive performance was a two-hit game in the series opener versus GWU. He capped off the week by touching home twice on Sunday versus the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Wilson, Gasparro and the Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, May 1, as UNC Asheville travels to nationally-ranked North Carolina. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
