ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The 2017-18 UNC Asheville women's basketball team posted yet another fantastic year on the hardwood.
The Bulldogs earned their third straight trip to the Big South Conference Championship game and played in their third consecutive postseason tournament.
BULLDOG BITES
UNC ASHEVILLE APPEARS IN THIRD STRAIGHT POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT: The UNC Asheville women's basketball team played in its third straight postseason tournament on March 15, 2018, as the Bulldogs hosted Furman in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). The Bulldogs ultimately fell, 65-64, in a nail-biter against the Paladins.
FITZGERALD AND WALL MAKE HISTORY IN WBI TOURNAMENT: Bronaza Fitzgerald broke the UNC Asheville Division I record for single-season rebounds, as she finished her senior season with 319 rebounds. She edged the previous record holder Kelli Riles by one rebound.
Jessica Wall also broke a school record, as she broke the school record for the most three-pointers made in a game. In the postseason contest, the junior guard made nine 3-pointers. She previously owned the school record with seven made three-pointers, which she accomplished back on Dec. 12, 2017 at USC Upstate.
FITZGERALD FINISHES CAREER AS A BULLDOG GREAT: Fitzgerald ends her career as the UNC Asheville Division I record holder in single-season rebounds with 319. She is now sixth in program history for the most career rebounds with 753.
Fitzgerald also finishes her career with the eighth-most points in a single season (446 points) in UNC Asheville Division I history. Fitzgerald also finished fifth in all-time program history in single-season rebounds with 319. To view the entire record book and where Fitzgerald stands, visit pages 16 and 17 on the final notes.
WEBB ETCHES NAME INTO UNC ASHEVILLE RECORD BOOKS: Khaila Webb also etched her name into the UNC Asheville record book during her senior campaign, as she finished her career with 1,109 points. That ranks her eighth in UNC Asheville Division I all-time career scoring and 13th in all-time program history in career points.
WALL BREAKS UNC ASHEVILLE SINGLE-SEASON RECORD: Wall made 90 three-pointers this season, which shattered the previous best mark that was held by Chatori Major when she made 78 three-pointers during the 2016-17 season. Wall finished her junior season going 90-for-228 (.395 percent) beyond the arc.
UNC ASHEVILLE FINISHES BETTER THAN PREDICTED: In the preseason polls, UNC Asheville was predicted to finish fifth, despite earning the second-highest amount of first-place votes (two). The Bulldogs once again overachieved and finished the regular season in third place and runner-up in the Big South Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs also won two out of three head-to-head contests against the preseason favorite Radford Highlanders.
THREE BULLDOGS RECEIVE POSTSEASON HONORS: Fitzgerald and Webb were both chosen All-Big South Conference. Fitzgerald was selected as a first-team selection, while Webb was a second-team choice. In addition, Tiffany Wilson was named to the Big South Women's Basketball All-Academic Team.
