Men’s Tennis Makes Changes to Schedule; Bulldogs Host Clemson on Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis has made some changes to its upcoming schedule.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, the Bulldogs will now next play host to Big South Conference foe Presbyterian College at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28.

UNC Asheville will still welcome Clemson of the ACC to the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on Wednesday, March 21, but the match will now start at 12:30 p.m.

BULLDOG BITES

Big South Win No. 1

UNC Asheville men's tennis picked up a thrilling 4-3 Big South Conference road victory over Radford on Sunday, March 18, at the Radford University Tennis Courts.

The match commenced with UNC Asheville (4-8, 1-2 Big South Conference) picking up what turned out to be a pivotal doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles over Radford (7-4, 0-1 Big South Conference).

At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Olly Cull and Henry Patten improved to a perfect 7-0 on the year with a 6-1 win over Carlos Sala and Robin Calais. UNC Asheville's Finlay Ray McFadyen and James Massie earned a 7-6 win over Michiel Meekers and Matko Varga at No. 3 doubles.

UNC Asheville garnered wins in half of the singles flights to pick up its first league win of the season.

Nationally 55th-ranked Henry Patten bounced back from a tough first set loss with back-to-back 6-2, 6-2 wins in the next two sets to best Rodrigo Magalhaes at No. 1 singles.

Edward Colclough picked up his first league singles win of the year with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Varga at No. 4 singles, while McFadyen bested Sala 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. McFadyen now has a team-high tying seven singles win this season.

About Clemson
The Tigers visit UNC Asheville with an overall record of 7-2 on the 2018 spring season. Clemson is 2-1 in ACC play after a 4-3 win over Miami in its last outing.

Patten Against the Tigers
UNC Asheville junior standout Henry Patten earlier this fall picked up the ITA Carolinas Region title by downing Clemson players in the semifinals and finals.

In the ITA Carolinas Region finals, the regionally eighth-seeded Patten bested 15th-seeded Alex Favrot of Clemson, 6-3, 6-1. Favrot played mainly at No. 1 singles last year for the Tigers, ending the regular season 16-9. Favrot is 11-6 so far this year.

The regionally eighth-seeded Patten advanced to the ITA Carolinas Regional final by besting 25th-seeded Simon Baudry of Clemson in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-2. Baudry is 14-4 this season.

The match against Clemson will be the first of six straight home matches for the Bulldogs with Delaware next visiting the Asheville Racquet Club after the Tigers. The Bulldogs and Blue Hens are scheduled to get things started at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 26.
