ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Bulldog Challenge was a historic success in 2017, and the 2018 Bulldog Challenge is shaping up to be an even bigger success.
In fact, through the first 18-plus days of the Bulldog Challenge a total of over $50,000 has been raised. That's already $10,000 past the entire goal in March of 2017. In total, the 2017 Bulldog Challenge went 265 percent past its original goal of $40,000 with $106,000 raised.
For 2018, UNC Asheville set an ambitious goal of $125,000 and with over $50,000 already raised, we are well on our way.
During the month of March, all former student-athletes and Bulldog fans are challenged to make a gift to UNC Asheville Athletics. Their gift directly impacts today's scholar-athlete by providing scholarships, tutoring and essential academic support that allow the Bulldogs to compete at the highest level.
The 2016 Bulldog Challenge had 237 total gifts, while the 2017 Bulldog Challenge had a total of 571 overall gifts with 442 unique donors.
This year so far, the nearly $50,000 raised has been accomplished through 211 donors.
The UNC Asheville team with the most donors on March 31 will be crowned the 2018 Bulldog Challenge champions.
Currently, UNC Asheville women's golf is in the lead with 55 gifts. Men's soccer is right behind in second place with 35 gifts, while women's soccer is in third with 27 gifts.
This year, there will also be a special Bulldog Challenge LIVE event at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 26, at the UNC Asheville Justice Center pool.
The whole event will be streamed live on Facebook Live and the team that raises the most money over the course of one hour from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. will have the unique opportunity to push their coach into the pool.
