UNC Asheville Holds Special March Madness Lecture, Reception at OLLI

02.27.2018 | Athletics News

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville and March Madness have a great relationship.

Both the men's and women's basketball programs at UNC Asheville particularly over the last few years have put themselves in position to be mainstays during the month of March.

The UNC Asheville women's basketball team has won back-to-back Big South Conference Tournaments and has participated in the last two NCAA Tournaments and the UNC Asheville men's basketball team played in the 2016 NCAA Tournament and has won back-to-back Big South regular-season championships. The UNC Asheville men's basketball team will play host to the 2018 Big South Men's Basketball Championship at Kimmel Arena inside the Sherrill Center as the No. 1 seed.

All of this why on Feb. 27 at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the Reuter Center it made perfect sense that UNC Asheville would hold a special March Madness Lecture.

The special lecture featured journalist, teacher, referee and sports historian Larry Griswold along with UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone.

Both gave special insights into what exactly March Madness is all about and explained the importance of the experience for UNC Asheville basketball student-athletes.

In addition, Cone and UNC Asheville athletics held a special reception after the lecture for those involved with the Leaders for Leaders Mentoring Program sponsored by Colton Groome & Company and members of the Bulldog Athletic Association board to thank them for their efforts for the university.
