CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the first time in his carrer, redshirt sophomore Jordan Carr was named the Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week on Monday following his stunning performance during the season-opening series at Lipscomb.
The conference made the official announcement on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018.
The Pasadena, Md. native made the start on Sunday versus the Bisons, and the redshirt sophomore was nearly flawless. Carr, who hasn't pitched in a collegiate game since May 19, 2016, tossed 5.1 innings of work and allowed one run. He struck out six batters, which is a new career high. Carr scattered five hits and allowed one walk.
With his first win of 2018, the victory marked his second career win, and the first since his collegiate debut versus Ohio on Feb. 16, 2016. He tossed six innings and struck out four versus the Bobcats.
Backing with his Starting Pitcher of the Week performance, the Bulldogs went on to defeat the Bisons, 6-3. Joe Gruszka and Danny Wilson each knocked solo homers, while four Bulldogs - Carmine Pagano, Chris Troost, Gruszka and Wilson - each tallied a pair of hits in the three-run victory.
Carr and the Bulldogs will prep for their first mid-week game of the year, as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to square off with Wofford. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at Russell C. King Field.
