ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville baseball head coach Scott Friedholm revealed the 2019 schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 12, which will feature 26 home games at Greenwood Field.
The Bulldogs open the 2019 season on the road, as they travel to College of Charleston for a three-game series beginning on February 15.
Following a midweek contest at Wofford on Feb. 20, UNC Asheville hosts its first series of the year against University of Maryland Baltimore County beginning on Feb. 22. UMBC traveled to Asheville two seasons ago, and the Bulldogs won the series by taking the first two games of the three-game set.
After a midweek tilt at Furman, Asheville will entertain Iona College for a series beginning on March 1. The Bulldogs also played the Gaels two seasons ago, and Asheville won the last two games of the series to win the set.
UNC Asheville will host Mountain Rival Western Carolina on March 6, as the head-to-head contest will start at 4 p.m. at Greenwood Field.
For its second non-conference road series of the season, the Bulldogs travel to Sun Belt Conference member Georgia Southern for three games beginning on March 8.
One of the highlights for the UNC Asheville schedule is playing two midweek contests at Tennessee. The first game of the series starts on March 12 and will be held in Knoxville, Tenn., and both games will be held inside Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The last time the two clubs squared off was two years ago, and the Bulldogs nearly pulled off the upset on the Vols, 5-2. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the final two frames. Current Bulldogs Danny Wilson and Tyler Serricchio tallied hits against the Southeastern Conference team.
UNC Asheville returns to Greenwood Field on March 15 to open Big South Conference play against first-year member USC Upstate.
The Bulldogs will then play their first road league games from March 22-24, as they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to square off with Campbell.
Following a lone midweek game at East Tennessee State University, Asheville entertains Longwood at Greenwood Field for a three-game series from March 29-31.
UNC Asheville will then play three straight games on the road, which includes a midweek contest at Charlotte and a three-game series at Presbyterian College.
The Bulldogs will then host nine straight games at Greenwood Field, which includes two Big South series and three non-conference games. In that nine-game stretch, the Bulldogs will play Appalachian State (April 10), Winthrop (April 12-14), Furman (April 16), Charleston Southern (April 18-20) and Wofford (April 23).
A day after the Wofford contest, the Bulldogs will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to square off with the Catamounts. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
After a three-game series at conference rival High Point, UNC Asheville will conclude its home schedule with four straight home games beginning with a midweek game versus ETSU on April 30. The Bulldogs will then play their last home series of the 2019 season against Radford from May 10-12.
Asheville concludes the regular season with four straight road games. On May 14, the Bulldogs travel to Boone, N.C. to play Appalachian State. They will then conclude the conference slate from May 16-18 with a series in Boiling Springs, N.C., as the Bulldogs square off with Gardner-Webb.
