10.23.2018 | Women's Soccer

CLINTON, S.C. – To conclude the 2018 regular season, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team fell to Presbyterian, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Martin Stadium.

BULLDOG BITES

How It Happened

Both UNC Asheville and Presbyterian had chances early in the contest to net an early goal. PC took the game's first shot on goal in the fifth minute, but freshman Courtney O'Malley made the save. In the eighth and 20th minutes, both Bella Iorio and Kyra Kandel each had solid looks at goal. However both attempts didn't find the back of the net.

In the 30th minute the first goal of the match was scored by Presbyterian's Mallory Hopkins. It was her fifth of the season.

UNC Asheville had several opportunities to score in the first half, as it connected with several shots in the final four minutes, but none of the shots rippled the netting.

With a 1-0 advantage, Presbyterian out-shot the Bulldogs, 9-4, in the first half, while UNC Asheville held a 3-2 edge in saves.

Nearly two minutes out of halftime the Blue Hose doubled their lead, 2-0, as Jessica Powell earned her first goal of the year.

Both the Bulldogs and the Blue Hose continued to exchange shots in the second half, but PC again found the back of the net in the 70th minute. Hopkins tallied the goal, which was her second of the match.

Again UNC Asheville and Presbyterian started exchanging shots on its opponent's net, but neither team could find the net again in the final 20 minutes of play.

With the 3-0 defeat, UNC Asheville concludes the 2018 season with a 3-9-4 overall record and a 2-6-2 mark in Big South Conference matches. Presbyterian finishes the year 8-8 overall and 3-7 in the league.

Both squads combined for 33 total shots with 19 shots on goal. Asheville was efficient in the second half, as it ripped seven total shots and put six on frame.

Iorio led the Asheville offense, as she struck five shots with two on goal. Gillian Oyos also took three shots and put two on net.

O'Malley corralled nine saves in the match, which brings her season total to 94 saves in 11 starts.
