Wincheski Named Big South Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for Third Time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the third time this season, UNC Asheville's Clara Wincheski has been named the Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The league office made the official announcement on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018.

Wincheski posted the UNC Asheville women's cross country freshman record and the second-fastest 6K time in school history in finishing sixth at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational with a time of 21:29.573.

Wincheski was first named Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 5 after she started off her career by finishing seventh overall individually at the 5K Covered Bridge Open on Aug. 31. She closed out the event with a freshman record time of 17:58.06. The time is the fourth-fastest in program history.

Wincheski also was named Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 26 after she continued her strong start to her freshman season by winning the Asheville Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 21 with a time of 18:21.11.

Wincheski was one of five from the UNC Asheville women's cross country team to finish in the top-10 in total in their home meet.
