ASHEVILLE, N.C. – With the NCAA now allowing baseball teams to play exhibition games during the fall, UNC Asheville and Georgia will square off in a fall season exhibition on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.
First pitch between the two Bulldog clubs is set for 2 p.m., and admission is free for all fans.
Seating at Foley Field for the exhibition will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Restrooms will be open, however the concession stands will be closed. Fans can bring in snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. The game will last 14 innings in an attempt to give every player playing time.
"We are excited to play a great team like Georgia and to see our guys compete. I want to thank Georgia for this opportunity," said UNC Asheville head coach Scott Friedholm.
Asheville returns a plethora of starters from last year's squad. Also joining the 2019 team are 11 newcomers, which includes two left-handed pitchers, two right-handed pitchers, three two-way players, two infielders, one outfielder and one catcher.
Georgia went 39-21 in the 2018 season, which included an at-large appearance in the NCAA Regional. UGA hosted the regional, where it won the first two games over Campbell and Troy. In the Athens Regional Championship, Duke won two straight games over Georgia, which allowed the Blue Devils to advance into the next round of the NCAA Tournament.
