UNC Asheville Concludes Day One at Keydet Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – To open the first day of the Keydet Invitational, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams had several strong performances to highlight the first day in Lexington, Va.
Highlights
Senior Hunter Koike had another strong performance this weekend as he made an appearance in the men's 60m preliminary and semifinal rounds. The St. Augustine, Fla. native finished 21st in the prelims with a 7.04, and he concluded the event with a 21st place in the semifinals with a 7.08.
The best team event for the Bulldogs was the men's 4000m Distance Medley Relay as they finished third out of eight teams. Comprised of Matthew Harding, Tyree McFalling, Matthew Barrera and Dominic Collichio, the Bulldogs posted a 10:25.61. The time was just under one second behind the runner up - Hampton.
In the women's 1000m, Maddie Lowe had a strong performance as she placed 15th with a 3:11.22. She was just under seven seconds away from cracking into the top 10 for Asheville.
Victor Mathuthu had a solid outing in the triple jump. He posted a 14.06m, which was good enough for a top 5 performance in a 15-person field.
Sophomore Thomas Little rounded out the top performances on the opening day as the Durham, N.C. native finished 7th in the 5000m with a 15:56.84.
What To Watch For On Saturday
The first three events on Saturday kick off at 10 a.m. with the men's long jump, shot put and mile. The first women's event will be the women's mile, and the first women's field event begins at 12:30 p.m. with the long jump.
The final event of the day will be the men's and women's 4 x 400 relay beginning at 3:40 p.m.
