Bulldogs Drop Conference Opener to High Point

09.23.2017 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team had some quality chances in the match, but in the end it would be High Point that would pick up a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs before a tremendous Homecoming crowd at Greenwood Field.

High Point (3-3-2, 1-0 Big South Conference) narrowly out-shot the Bulldogs, 13-10, in the match. The Bulldogs had five shots on frame in the match to High Point's six.

UNC Asheville (1-7-0, 0-1-0 Big South Conference) had three more corner kick opportunities (7-4) than the Panthers in the contest.

High Point's Bana Ganidekam scored two of High Point's three goals in the match with Ryan Inman netting the other for the Panthers.

UNC Asheville as noted had some top-notch chances in the match, but maybe the best of the day came in the 87th-minute when somehow a Dante Bova scissor kick was denied by a reflex save by High Point goalkeeper Keegan Meyer.

BULLDOG BITES

#ThePursuit Man of the Match

For his efforts in his 90 minutes on the pitch, UNC Asheville freshman defender Dante Bova was chosen by head coach Mathes Mennell and the UNC Asheville coaching staff as #ThePursuit Man of the Match.

Quotable
"I thought we played pretty well. We had chances to go up early, but Big South play is always going to be tough. I thought our guys battled hard. Certainly, we're not excited about not winning on Homecoming, but full credit to High Point. They came in and did a good job. We'll get back to work. We have two very tough matches coming up this week in NC State on Tuesday and then at Radford." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell

Homecoming Crowd
"It was a great crowd and atmosphere even with the weather. We appreciated the tremendous support from our student body, our alumni and the community. That was awesome." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell

Up Next
UNC Asheville men's soccer will next travel to Raleigh, N.C. to take on No. 21 NC State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Dail Soccer Field. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
