Start of Big South Baseball Championship Pushed Back to Thursday

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The opening round of the 2017 Big South Conference Baseball Championship Presented by Hardee's has been delayed further due to constant rain in the area around the Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

The Big South Conference officials announced that the opening round is now scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 25, at approximately 9:30 a.m. depending on weather conditions. Game-one will feature No. 2 Seed Liberty and No. 7 Seed Gardner-Webb.

UNC Asheville, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, will play in the second game of the week against No. 3 Seed Presbyterian College. The game between the Bulldogs and the Blue Hose will start shortly after the conclusion of game-one with an approximate first pitch time of 1 p.m.

The second round will then be contested on Friday, May 26, with the final games being split between Saturday, May 27, and Sunday, May 28. The championship game is now slated for Sunday.

Per the Big South Conference:
Big South Conference and Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission (LCRAC) officials have met continuously throughout the day to evaluate weather and field conditions at the Lexington Country Baseball Stadium, and after further evaluation, no games will be played for a second consecutive day.  The Championship is now scheduled to start on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., and will remain a double-elimination tournament.

The tournament schedule has been adjusted to the following:

Thursday, May 25 (Games 1-4) – Big South Network
Game 1:  No. 2 Liberty vs. No. 7 Gardner-Webb - 9:30 a.m.
Game 2:  No. 3 Presbyterian vs. No. 6 UNC Asheville - 45 minutes following Game 1
Game 3:  No. 1 Winthrop vs. No. 8 Campbell - 45 minutes following Game 2
Game 4:  No. 4 High Point vs. No. 5 Radford - 45 minutes following Game 3

Friday, May 26 (Games 5-8) – ESPN3
Game 5:  Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 - 9:30 a.m.
Game 6:  Loser Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4 - 45 minutes following Game 5
