CULLOWHEE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville track and field team concluded competition at the WCU Invitational hosted by Western Carolina at the Catamount Athletic Complex on Friday, April 28.

Bulldogs' senior Keenan Devaney kicked off the afternoon with a third place finish in the javelin competition, throwing for a distance of 47.60 meters.

Both the men's and women's 4 X 100 meter relay teams set school records with top-5 finishes for Asheville with the men running theirs in 42.67 and the women in 47.8 meters.

Jailah Grimes (12.45) had a top-10 finish in the women's 100 meter dash, setting the third-best time in program history. Jasmine Cox (12.65) was shortly behind her, setting the fifth-best mark in school history.

Hunter Koike finished in third place in the men's 100 meter dash with a time of 10.87. Koike (55.32) followed that with a third place finish, claiming the third-best time in program history in the 400 meter hurdles. Patrick Johnston was shortly behind him, finishing fifth, fifth best all-time in Bulldog history, with a time of 57.00.

Kayli Nichols placed third in the women's 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 14.28.

Kimani Anderson had a top-10 finish in the men's 200 meter dash, running the event in 22.02.

Kamryn DeCarmo had yet another top-5 finish for Asheville on the day, finishing fourth in the women's 8000 meter run with a time of 2:18.13. On the men's side of the event, Chase Stevens (1:55.84) placed fourth, David Hager came in 10th (1:58.07), Jason Perry (1:59.00) finished 12th with Chilton Birdwhitsell (1:59.08) right behind him in 13th and Matthew Barrera (2:01.67) with a top-20 finish.

Chris McKoy competed in both the long jump and triple jump for the Bulldogs on Friday. He finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.58 meters.

Blanton Gillespie had a top-5 finish in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:00.88.

ABOUT THE EVENT: The WCU Invitational was held on April 28 at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The Catamount Athletic Complex features an eight-lane, 400-meter Benyon 1000 System track with two pole vault and jump runways on the south end with pits adorning either end. The sprint lanes at the CAC are located on the back stretch directly across from the grandstand seating to provide full-race viewing for spectators.

BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE AWARDS: Two Bulldogs picked up big awards at the conclusion of the Big South Indoor Championships with Matthew Harding tying for league Freshman of the Year accolades and Hunter Koike being tabbed as the men's track and field Scholar Athlete of the Year.

UP NEXT: Following this weekend's competition, the Bulldog men and women will now look forward to competing in the forward to the Big South Outdoor Championships. The league championships will be held in Charleston, S.C. from May 10-12.
