WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team's season came to a conclusion in the Big South Men's Tennis Conference Championships when they fell to the No. 3 seeded Campbell Camels, 4-2, in the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday, April 20, at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

The afternoon began with Campbell taking the doubles competition to claim an early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs' No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler dominated in a 6-2 victory over Lorenz Schwab and Dustin Werner to stretch to a 16-match winning streak as a pair. On court No. 3, the Bulldogs' James Massie and Majed Yousef fell, 6-3, to Jonathan O'Neal and Gerard Sola. The Camels' No. 2 pairing of Nicolas Rakitin and Lukas Schaefer clinched the doubles point when they rallied to top Reid Dillon and Olly Cull, 7-5.

Singles play kicked off with Asheville's No. 2 Swindler downing Werner in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Court No. 5 saw Massie drop a 6-4, 6-0, decision to O'Neal. The No. 6 seeded freshman Andrew Sinai then topped Fernando Clemente, 6-0, 7-5, to even the match at 2-2. After a nearly perfect season, the No. 1 seeded Patten saw his unbeaten streak come to an end when he fell to Schaefer, 0-6, 6-3, 6-0.  No. 3 Dillon rallied back after dropping the first set to Rakitin but fell short, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Play was left unfinished on court No. 4 as Campbell had already clinched the match.

BULLDOG BITES
RESILIENT SWINDLER: Senior Josh Swindler showed his resiliency and determination this year as seven of his 21 matches have gone a full three sets. Swindler not only finishes the year 16-5 in singles play, but 6-1 in matches that have gone the distance. The senior also finishes the season atop the Big South Conference standings at the No. 2 singles slot.

PATTEN MAKES HISTORY: Ranked 118th in NCAA Division I, sophomore Henry Patten has been extremely impressive in his performances this season, earning himself back-to-back Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Jan. 23-29 as well as Feb. 27-March 6. Patten topped the No. 102 ranked singles player at the time, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, earlier this season. Patten also defeated the No. 66 ranked singles player at the time, Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech. After dropping his match today, the Big South Player of the Year concludes his season with a 20-1 record.

THE STREAK CONTINUES: The No. 1 duo of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler have had a phenomenal season. After their victory over Campbell today, the top pairing improved to 20-1 on the year and will finish the season on a 16-match winning streak.

BRIGHT FUTURE: The Bulldogs will only be losing two seniors off of this year's squad: Reid Dillon and Josh Swindler. Asheville will be returning three sophomores from this year's team, including the Big South Player of the Year and nationally-ranked Henry Patten, as well as three freshmen, one of which who went 4-1 this season in Edward Colclough.
