ASHEVILLE, N.C - Henry Patten of UNC Asheville men's tennis is now nationally ranked 118th by the Oracle/ITA Division I Collegiate Rankings.

The sophomore from Manningtree, Essex, U.K., has had a remarkable season, going undefeated at the No. 1 singles position throughout the regular-season.

"This is an incredible achievement for Henry," UNC Asheville men's tennis head coach Tom Hand said. "We knew he had it in him at some point, but for him to be recognized among the best in the country as a sophomore is fantastic. It will only serve as encouragement to see how high he can go in the future."

Throughout the course of the season Patten managed to earn himself back-to-back Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week awards for matches played Jan. 23-29 as well as Feb. 27-March 6.

The 2017 Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Year, Patten also topped the No. 102 ranked singles player at the time, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, earlier this season. In addition, the first-team All-Big South Conference selection also defeated the No. 66 ranked singles player at the time, Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech.

Patten finished the regular season with an impressive 19-0 record at No. 1 singles, winning every match but one in straight sets. The 2017 Big South All-Academic choice is the only Bulldog to achieve an undefeated regular-season at No. 1 singles in the history of the program. He is now 33-3 overall in singles play as a Bulldog.

In addition to Patten's success in singles play, he has been near perfect along with Josh Swindler in doubles competitions as well. The No. 1 duo had a phenomenal regular-season, finishing 18-1. They are currently riding a 14-match winning streak heading into championship play. The duo in their two years together as doubles partners own an impressive 32-4 record overall.

Patten, Swindler and the UNC Asheville men's tennis team will next travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the Big South Men's Tennis Conference Championship which lasts from April 19-21. The No. 7 seeded Bulldogs will meet the No. 2 seed, the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs, in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Wednesday, April 19, with a start time of 9 a.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
