Women’s Basketball Signs Fourth Member to Incoming Class

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Head women's basketball coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick and the back-to-back Big South Conference Champions UNC Asheville women's basketball staff have added a fourth signee to the incoming signing class. Coach Mock announced Friday the signing of Nadiria Evans out of Oak Hall School in Gainesville, Fla., for the 2017-18 season.
"Nadiria Evans is full of potential and her best basketball is ahead of her here at UNC Asheville," Coach Mock said. "Coach Josh Petersen and I made a trip to Florida to see her in the fall after hearing so many great things about her from several different sources. We were not disappointed when we saw her work out and knew instantly that she would fit our style of play perfectly. As a player, she has all of the tools and talent to be one of the most dynamic scoring threats and defenders for our team in the future. I have also really enjoyed getting to know Nadiria and her family over the course of this season through the recruiting process and we are confident that she is going to be a great addition to our Bulldog Family."

Evans is a two-sport student-athlete for the Eagles, lettering in both basketball and track & field. She has earned four varsity letters in an illustrious basketball career that saw her end her time with 1,248 career points as well as collect numerous honors, including being selected as Oak Hall's Athlete of the Year following both her sophomore and junior years.
In basketball, Evans was twice named the team's Most Valuable Player as both a sophomore and a junior. A three-time The Gainesville Sun All-Area first-team selection, Evans was named the MVP of the Hernando Holiday Classic during her junior campaign.
As a senior, she averaged 20.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.0 steals per game. The year before, Evans averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 boards, 3.3 assists and 5.6 steals as a junior.
In track & field, Evans is the school record holder in both the long jump and triple jump and was also a contributing member of the 4x800 meter, 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter teams that set program records. She led the 2016 team to the overall state championship and was a member of three consecutive state championships with the Eagles' 4x800 and 4x400 teams. As a sophomore, she captured the individual state championship in the 400 and was named The Gainesville Sun's Track Athlete of the Year.
Evans joins a class that features Amaryah Corpening of Freedom High School (Morganton, N.C.), Armanii Grice from Ridge View High School (Columbia, S.C.) and Juliet Esadah of Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, Miss.).
2017-18 basketball season tickets are now officially on sale. UNC Asheville is currently accepting deposits, and fans can reserve their season ticket for only $50 per seat.
The season ticket includes both men's and women's home regular-season basketball games. The 2017-18 UNC Asheville basketball season is shaping up to be special once again for the women's basketball team which is coming off back-to-back Big South Tournament titles as well as two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
