SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The UNC Asheville men's tennis team fell 4-3 to the Wofford Terriers on Monday afternoon.

The Terriers jumped to a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles competition. Asheville's No. 1 pair of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler improved to 8-1 on the season with their 6-4 triumph over Haris Poric and Julian Chousa. Wofford then took the No. 2 court with Andrew Graham and Patrick Longest topping the Bulldogs James Massie and Andrew Sinai, 6-4. No. 3 seeded Lucas Cerbelli and Jack Thomas of Wofford clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Reid Dillon and Olly Cull.

No. 1 seeded Patten improved to 9-0 at the No. 1 singles slot this season when he defeated Cerbelli, 6-2, 6-2. No. 3 Cull then gained the lead for the Bulldogs at 2-1 when he downed Thomas, 6-0, 6-3. No. 5 Kyle Barr of the Terriers topped Andrew Sinai 6-2, 6-3. The Terriers then took courts No. 4 and 6 to clinch the match. No. 4 Chousa beat Dillon in a three-setter, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. No. 6 Peter Coombs clinched the match in a thrilling 6-3, 7-6 (12-10), win over Massie. Action concluded for the day on court No. 2 where Asheville's Swindler defeated Parks Schoen, 7-5, 7-6 (4)

BULLDOG BITES
PATTEN CONTINUES TO IMPRESS: Sophomore Henry Patten has started the season with some very impressive performances, earning himself the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Jan. 23-29. Patten topped the No. 102 ranked singles player at the time, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, earlier this season. Patten also defeated the No. 66 ranked singles player at the time, Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech. The native of the U.K. is now 9-0 in singles play on the year, winning every match in straight sets. Alongside Josh Swindler, the No. 1 doubles pairing is 8-1 on the season. 

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will continue their road swing when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face UNC Charlotte on Friday, March 3, beginning at 2 p.m.
