CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team closed out a two-game road swing Tuesday night with a trip to Charleston, S.C. The Bulldogs continued to show plenty of fight, but ultimately fell 73-66 to Charleston Southern in a Big South Conference game inside the Buc Dome.

Charleston Southern (14-10, 8-5 Big South Conference) took a 37-25 lead after the first half, but UNC Asheville (11-13, 5-8) out-scored the Buccaneers 41-36 in the second half, led by 10 points and a pair of three-pointers by Chatori Major. Major ended the game with 18 points and four three-pointers to go along with four rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes of work.

For the second game in a row, Jessica Wall scored a season-high, netting 16 points this time at Charleston Southern. The sophomore guard went 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) from the field and hit three treys. She was also perfect (5-of-5) at the free throw line and added four rebounds.

Bronaza Fitzgerald came off the bench to score 11 points in the game and shot 4-for-5 from the field. She tied Sonora Dengokl with a team-high seven rebounds.

Charleston Southern was led by Rachel Burns' 18 points, Alyssa Mann's 16 points and Ke'Asia Jackson's 16. Elyse Kiploks just missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.

Charleston Southern capitalized on 11 Asheville turnovers and turned them into 15 points. The Buccaneers also out-scored the Bulldogs 36-26 in the paint. UNC Asheville ended the game shooting 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field, but Charleston Southern shot 45.9 percent (28-of-61) for the contest.

BULLDOG BITES
THREE FOR THREE: Senior guard Chatori Major converted four three-pointers Tuesday night. The game at Charleston Southern marks the 10th time this season Major has converted at least three three-pointers.

BLOCK PARTY: Senior KJ Weaver swatted away three more shots Tuesday night, marking the 14th time this season she has recorded multiple blocks in a game. It is also the fourth game in a row she has accomplished the feat and fifth game in the last six. She currently has 150 career blocks.

CLOSING IN ON 1,000: Senior Chatori Major is quickly closing in on 1,000 career points. She now has 969 career points after netting 18 against the Bucs Tuesday night. Last season, she scored 452 points en route to earning Big South Conference Player of the Year honors and currently leads the team with 321 points this season.

UP NEXT
The Bulldogs next return home on Saturday, Feb. 18, for a 2 p.m. Big South Conference game against Longwood inside Kimmel Arena. The game with the Lancers will be Asheville's annual Play 4 Kay game and all fans are encouraged to wear pink. The game will also be the Bulldogs' National Girls & Women in Sports Day.
