Bulldogs Collect Dominating Home Win Over King

ASHEVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team got back on the winning track with a 7-0 triumph over King University Friday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs grabbed the early lead by seizing the doubles point. The No. 1 pairing of Henry Patten and Josh Swindler topped King's Moritz Poswiat and Lennard Neumann, 6-2. The Bulldogs' No. 2 Majed Yousef and James Massie defeated Alejandro Feliciano, 6-1. Asheville also took the No. 3 court when Olly Cull and Reid Dillon bested Kyle Logue and Charles Jabaley, 6-2.
The Bulldogs continued to succeed, sweeping singles play as well, with only one match going the distance. No. 1-seeded Patten beat Poswiat in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 Swindler was victorious over Keswani, 6-1, 6-2. The No. 3 court saw Cull win in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, over Neumann. No. 4 seeded Yousef then won his match over Feliciano, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0. The Bulldogs' No. 5 Dillon defeated Jabaley, 6-4, 6-3. The afternoon concluded with No. 6 Edward Colclough topping Alfaro, 6-2, 7-6(4).

PATTEN PEAKING: Sophomore Henry Patten has started the season with some very impressive performances, earning himself the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Jan. 23-29. Last time out Patten defeated the No. 102 ranked singles player, Scott Webster of Appalachian State, and is now 6-0 in singles play on the year, winning every match in straight sets. Alongside Swindler, the No. 1 doubles pairing is 5-1 on the season.Â
CLEAN SWEEPS: Today's sweep over King University is now the fourth on the season for Asheville. The Bulldogs pulled off three consecutive 7-0 sweeps to begin the campaign. Asheville now has swept King University, Mount Olive, Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill this season.
UP NEXT: UNC Asheville will host Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Asheville Racquet Club.Â
