CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UNC Asheville men's tennis player Henry Patten has been named this week's Big South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Patten, a sophomore from Manningtree, Essex, U.K., went undefeated this past weekend, winning both doubles and singles matches against Mount Olive and East Carolina.
Paired with Josh Swindler at No. 1 doubles, Patten defeated the top pairings from the Trojans and Pirates over the weekend, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.
In singles play, Patten swept both competitions this weekend on the No. 1 singles court. Against Mount Olive, he was dominant in his 6-2, 6-2, triumph over Ogulcan Deniz. On Sunday, he topped ECU's Freddie McGeehan 6-4, 6-3.
Not only did Patten come out unbeaten on the weekend, he has yet to lose a singles or doubles match this season. In fact, he hasn't even dropped a set along the way.
"We are very proud of Henry," head coach Tom Hand said. "He continues build upon his strong performance in the fall and we're looking forward to his continued success in the season ahead."
Patten and the Bulldogs will return to action this Saturday, Feb. 4, hosting Appalachian State at the Asheville Racquet Club, beginning at 3 p.m.
