BULLDOG BITES

Meet Highlights

Despite losing by 26 points in the 2017-18 season opener, it was Asheville's closest meet with Gardner Webb in program history. The previous closest result was last year when UNC Asheville fell by 98 points in Boiling Springs.

The Bulldogs were led by Skylar Rogan, Catherine Allen and Stephanie Smith in Asheville's first-ever all-relay meet. The Bulldog trio along with Adee Weller claimed the top spot in the 800 freestyle relay as they clocked in with a 7:53.64 time.

Including the 800 freestyle relay, Asheville's "A" Team won five of the 10 total events on the schedule. The final two events were labeled as exhibition, and UNC Asheville won the 400 freestyle (4 x 100) to cap off the season opener for Asheville.

Smith along with Emily Werth and Alejandra Sanchez Garcia claimed the number one position in the 3 x 100 backstroke relay. The trio earned 14 team points as they out-raced the closest competition by over three seconds.

The Bulldogs continued to take home first place as Jessica Woolfe, Morgan Rulevich, Weller and Rogan downed the fastest Runnin' Bulldog relay team in the 500-yard freestyle by over six seconds.

Weller, Smith and Rogan capped off their first meet of the season with a victory in the 3 x 500 freestyle. Along with 14 team points, they out-raced the GWU competition by over 17 seconds.

Quotable

"I could not be happier with the effort we put forth tonight. Gardner-Webb is a deep and talented team, and tonight we were able to show just how far we have come as a team since last season. Everyone competed hard, and everyone supported their teammates with the utmost sincerity. Our team environment fueled us to first place finishes in half of the events this evening, and we cannot wait to build upon this performance as the season continues."
