ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team held its first official practice on Tuesday afternoon as the Bulldogs start to prepare for the 2017-18 season and look to repeat for a third straight year as Big South Conference
champions.
"I feel like we have already started practices, but this is just our first official day", said junior guard Sonora Dengokl. "I am just excited to see how the team meshes together. It is a lot of talent, and it will be interesting to see where each part goes."
"We did a lot of individual drill work leading up to this first official practice, so starting today, we will be implementing those drills into our system," said head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. "We will be taking those individual drills and implementing them into a more team-driven concept today."
The Bulldogs concluded the 2016-17 season with a 19-15 overall record, but Asheville cruised through the Big South Tournament as it won four games in four straight days. The Bulldogs nipped Presbyterian by one point in the semifinals and stole the championship title over No. 1 Radford by a lone point.
