CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Senior guard Khaila Webb was named to the Big South Conference Preseason All-Conference Second Team, which was announced Tuesday at the Big South Conference Media Day.

Webb is one of two seniors on the women's basketball squad as she has appeared in 88 games including 36 starts during her tenure in Asheville. Twenty-seven of her 36 career starts came last year where she averaged 10.8 points per game, which was the second-most on the team and 14th-most in the Big South. In league play, the senior averaged 10.8 points per game, 32.4 minutes, 3.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists. The 3.8 assists ranked fifth in the conference.

"Khaila is one of the most dynamic guards in the league. She is a warrior, and I really appreciate the fact that she is being recognized as a pre-season pick for all-conference," said head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. "I am most pleased with her willingness to step up as a senior and lead the rest of the team as we are becoming a unit. There's a lot of youth on our squad right now and team leadership is needed."

In her career, the Spartanburg, S.C. native is 329 points away from joining the 1,000-point club, 26 assists away from 300 and 43 rebounds from 300 career rebounds.

The Bulldogs concluded the 2016-17 season with a 19-15 overall record, but Asheville cruised through the Big South Tournament as it won four games in four straight days. The Bulldogs nipped Presbyterian by one point in the semifinals and stole the championship title over No. 1 Radford by a lone point.

UNC Asheville opens its 2017-18 schedule with an exhibition at home versus Mars Hill on Nov. 3. The Bulldogs will then open their regular season on the road at Western Carolina on Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. The home opener is slated for Nov. 18 versus Charlotte as the Bulldogs and 49ers will tip at 7 p.m. inside Kimmel Arena.
