MUSCO SPOTLIGHT VIDEO
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball senior forward KJ Weaver has been featured in the most recent Big South Conference MUSCO Spotlight, a video feature produced by the conference office that focuses on women's student-athletes and their personal stories during the 2016-17 year.
In the video released by the Big South Conference office, Weaver talks about growing up with parents who are deaf and how her stepfather's passion for basketball led her to the sport she now loves. She also talks about how her parents helped teach her patience and understanding both on and off the court.
"KJ Weaver is a leader both on and off the court for us. For me personally, KJ is an inspiration," head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick said. "She is fully invested in everything she does at UNC Asheville and beyond. She's unique in that she understands that our platform at UNC Asheville as the women's basketball team is more than just winning, it's about developing character through the ups and downs of a season and growing relationships within the team. KJ is very unselfish with her teammates and coaches, constantly thinking of others before herself. She epitomizes what we try to instill in each one of these ladies. Outcomes do not define or determine your life's course. Life is about loving and caring for people and maximizing each moment. I appreciate so much KJ's ability to be present and give each opportunity with our team her full attention. It hard to imagine coaching without KJ on the sideline or out on the court! I will enjoy these last couple of months with her knowing that her future is bright and that we are better as a program because KJ played here."
The Bulldogs will continue their current two-game homestand tonight against Charleston Southern with tipoff at 7 p.m. The game against the Buccaneers will be Faculty Appreciation Night for the Bulldogs as well as the first-ever Residence Hall Challenge. UNC Asheville will also be calling for a Blue Out against Charleston Southern.
