Saturday Full of Strong Performances for Bulldogs at Liberty Kickoff

LYNCHBURG, Va.—The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition of the two-day Liberty Kickoff Saturday afternoon. It was an all-around competitive day for Asheville, as many Bulldogs performed very well.
 
The first Bulldog to see action on the day was sophomore Chris McKoy, in the men's long jump, with a best effort of 6.47 meters. McKoy also competed in the men's triple jump with a distance of 12.69 meters.
 
Sophomore Katherine Duquiatan followed in the women's long jump, placing fifth in the flight two finals, with a distance of 4.80 meters.
 
In the men's 60 meter dash prelims, senior Keenan Devaney sprinted in 7.98 seconds. Sophomores Mariza Brooks (8.60) and Jailah Grimes (8.07) also competed in the event on the women's side.
 
Freshman Matthew Harding had a standout performance in the 500 meter dash, finishing in third, with a time of 1:04.00. Harding also placed third in the 1000 meter run, with a time of 2:28.00.
 
Both juniors David Hager (4:31.37) and Dominic Collichio (4:32.97) performed well for Asheville in the men's one mile run. On the women's side, freshman Abby Reimer claimed 25thplace with a time of 5:42.04, followed by senior Katie Gamble at 5:56.43.
 
Duquiatan finished with a time of 9.66 in the women's 60 meter hurdles prelims. Freshman Patrick Johnston followed with a time of 9.19 in the men's 60 meter hurdles prelims.
 
Two Bulldogs finished in the top-10 in the women's 500 meter dash. Freshman Kamryn DeCarmo (1:19.00) placed seventh and junior Lauren Etheridge (1:23.00) finished ninth.
 
BULLDOG BITES
RUNNING HARD(ING): Harding had two top three finishes on the afternoon in the 500 meter dash and the 1000 meter run as well.
 
SENIORS SHINE: Two Bulldog seniors came in the top-10 in the women's 5000-meter competition Friday: Sarah Heisner finishing fifth and Sam Castle sixth in the event.

UP NEXT
With the conclusion of the Liberty Kickoff today, the Bulldog men and women will hit the road to Huntington, W. Va., to compete in the Thundering Herd Invitational Jan. 27-28.
