Men's Tennis Opens Regular-Season This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's tennis team is set to open their season with a non-conference match against Mars Hill at the Asheville Racquet Club, beginning at 3 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 21. The match will be the 2017 spring opener for both teams.  

The Bulldogs will continue their opening weekend with a match against Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday, Jan. 22, beginning at 3 p.m. The match will also be held at the Asheville Racquet Club.

BULLDOG BITES
PRESEASON PICKS: Asheville was picked sixth overall in the 2017 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs finished the 2016 regular-season with an overall 11-8 record and eventually fell to the No. 2 seeded Liberty Flames in the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament.

YOUNG FACES: Coming into the 2017 season, Asheville's roster is filled with underclassmen.  The Bulldogs have three freshman in Edward Colclough, James Massie and Majed Yousef. The roster also holds three sophomores in Olly Cull, Henry Patten and Andrew Sinai. The team will look to the experience of the two seniors, Reid Dillon and Josh Swindler this season.

UP NEXT: Following play on Sunday, the Bulldogs will hit the road next Saturday, Jan. 28, to face off with Mount Olive at East Carolina's Campus, in Greenville, N.C., beginning at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs will then take on the Pirates of East Carolina at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.
