05.23.2016 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville junior outfielder Joe Tietjen was honored by the Big South Conference on Monday afternoon for his performance on the field this season. Tietjen was named a Second Team All-Conference selection, and was also named to the Big South's All-Academic team.

One of two players to have played in all 54 games this season for the Bulldogs, Tietjen finished the year as Asheville's offensive leader in batting average (.344), RBI (55) and doubles (15), sitting inside the top 10 in each of those Big South Conference-wide categories. He finished with 22 multi-hit games this season and 12 multi-RBI games and had a nine-RBI, two home run game against Presbyterian back on April 3 to tie the Asheville program record for most RBI in a single game.

Tietjen's All-Conference selection gives the Bulldog program Big South Conference honors for the second consecutive season, the first time that has happened since the end of the 2011 and 2012 campaigns.
