ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After more than a week off to wrap up final classes and exams, UNC Asheville steps back into action with a pair of midweek non-conference matchups, beginning Tuesday night at Charlotte before returning home to host Wofford on Wednesday.
Asheville has won eight of its last 15 games as it prepares for the home stretch of the season, while the Bulldogs have won their last three midweek contests, including two of those on the road.
NOTABLES
Guy Streaking: Pete Guy takes a 26 game on-base streak into the midweek games, the second-longest in the Scott Friedhom-era behind former Bulldog Hunter Bryant's 34 game on-base streak last season. Guy has started and played in all 41 games to date this season.
Guy's Eyes: Even with a week off, Guy sits third in the country in total base on balls (48) entering the week (two back of the national leaders) and is third in the country in base on balls per game average (1.17 per), just behind the national leader (Zack Collins, Miami (FL) – 1.23 per). He sits ninth in the country in total times hit by pitch (15).
Tietjen on at the Plate: Joe Tietjen leads the Bulldogs and is second in the Big South Conference with his 46 RBI, a mark that is inside the top 50 in the country. Tietjen's 1.12 RBIs per game average ranks 32nd in the country and leads the conference.
Eagle Eye, Bulls Eye: As a team, the Bulldogs have drawn 221 walks, one behind Big South leader Coastal Carolina, while ranking 13th nationally. Asheville also has a knack for getting hit, with its 54 total hit batters this season ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Looking at the Opponents: Both Charlotte and Wofford have four players batting over .300 at the plate and four players each having over 25 RBI entering the week. This will be the second meeting of the season between Asheville and Wofford (Wofford 8-5 win Feb. 28), while Tuesday is the Bulldogs' first meeting with Charlotte since the teams split a pair of midweek games in Charlotte during the 2014 season.
THE PROBABLES
Tuesday: Spencer Orr (Jr. LHP, AVL) vs. Philip Perry (RSo. RHP, CLT)
Wednesday: TBD (AVL) vs. TBD (Wofford)
