ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville returns home for a weekend three game series with visiting North Carolina Central on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with the teams scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday.

 

The Bulldogs are coming off of a win over No. 11 North Carolina on Wednesday night, while N.C. Central snapped a four-game losing streak with a pair of midweek wins, including a victory at Big South member Longwood.

 

NOTABLES

Put One in the Win Column: Asheville's victory over No. 11 North Carolina on Wednesday was the first win for the Big South Conference against UNC this season (now 1-2). The Bulldog win ups the Big South's member record to 8-12 against ACC schools this year.

 

The Right Guy: Pete Guy has some the best eyes of the strike zone in the country, based off of statistics, this season. Guy leads the country in total base on balls (37) and sits third in the country in base on balls per game average (1.23 per), just behind the national leader (Cavan Biggio, Notre Dame – 1.30 per).

 

Tietjen on at the Plate: Joe Tietjen leads the Bulldogs and the Big South Conference with his 41 RBI, a mark that is the seventh-most in the country (Jordan Rodgers, Tennessee – 48 RBI). Tietjen's 1.37 RBIs per game average ranks 14th in the country.

 

Eagle Eye, Bulls Eye: As a team, the Bulldogs have drawn 169 walks, leading the Big South in the category and ranking fouth nationally. Asheville also has a knack for getting hit, with its 42 total hit batters this season ranked 17th nationally.

 

Looking at N.C. Central: As a team, N.C. Central has five players batting over .300 at the plate, while there are four players who each have 20 or more RBI entering the weekend. The Eagles have been outscored this season 244-196, and the Big South holds a 3-2 record overall to date against Central.
