ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville looks to get back in the win column when the Bulldogs welcome East Tennessee State to town on Wednesday night at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs are coming off of a weekend series that saw them drop two of three games, while ETSU was swept at home by Mercer over the weekend.

 

NOTABLES

Midweek Blues: Asheville has had little success during midweek contests this season, holding a 2-7 record to date. The Bulldogs are coming off of a victory at UNC during the middle of last week.

 

The Right Guy: Pete Guy has some the best eyes of the strike zone in the country, based off of statistics, this season. Guy leads the country in total base on balls (39) and sits fourth in the country in base on balls per game average (1.18 per), just behind the national leader (Cavan Biggio, Notre Dame – 1.25 per).

 

Tietjen on at the Plate: Joe Tietjen leads the Bulldogs and the Big South Conference with his 41 RBI, a mark that is the 15th-most in the country (Jordan Rodgers, Tennessee – 50 RBI). Tietjen's 1.24 RBIs per game average ranks 25th in the country.

 

Eagle Eye, Bulls Eye: As a team, the Bulldogs have drawn 181 walks, leading the Big South in the category and ranking fouth nationally. Asheville also has a knack for getting hit, with its 43 total hit batters this season ranked 26th nationally.

 

Looking at ETSU: Tuesday will be the second meeting of the season for Asheville and ETSU, with ETSU winning 9-1 in Johnson City back on March 1. The Buccaneers are 4-6 in their last 10 games and had won four games in a row prior to their weekend setback against Mercer. ETSU has six players hitting over .300 this season and three players with more than 25 RBI at the plate.
