Sonora Dengokl Named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –UNC Asheville guard Sonora Dengokl has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon.
In Asheville's 23-point win over Charleston Southern, Dengokl provided a solid presence for Asheville on both ends of the floor, adding 10 points on 50 percent shooting and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes of play. In Saturday's victory over High Point University, she went 2-of-4 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line to add seven points to the Bulldogs' 21-point victory. Dengokl also contributed one steal and five rebounds in 13 minutes of play.
The freshman has seen the floor in all 29 games for the Bulldogs this season, and averages 6.1 points per game on 45 percent shooting. Dengokl also averages 3.5 rebounds per game for Asheville.
Dengokl and the Bulldogs captured their first ever regular season Big South Conference crown in program history with a win over High Point University this past Saturday. Asheville finished with an overall record of 26-3, and 16-4 in Big South conference play.
