ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville returns home to Greenwood Field for a three-game weekend series against Big South Conference foe Presbyterian beginning Friday night. The Bulldogs are coming off of back-to-back midweek losses, while Presbyterian is coming off a midweek win and is 2-3 over the last five games.

 

Friday night's series opener will be on ESPN3, and fans are reminded of the time change to 7:00 p.m. to accommodate television. Saturday (3:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) games are scheduled for broadcast on the Big South Network.

 

NOTABLES

The Right Guy: Pete Guy has one of the best eyes on the strike zone, based off of statistics, this season. Guy is tied for the national lead in total base on balls (32) and sits second in the country in base on balls per game average (1.28 per), just behind the national leader (Zack Collins, Miami – 1.29 per).

 

Eagle Eye, Bulls Eye: As a team, the Bulldogs have drawn 139 walks, leading the Big South in the category and ranking eighth nationally. Asheville also has a knack for getting hit, with its 31 total hit batters this season ranked 48th nationally.

 

Fresh Faces: Asheville has seen 10 different freshmen see action through the first month of the season, with an even split of five position players and five pitchers. Danny Wilson has started all 24 games, while Carmine Pagano has played in all 24 games with 23 starts and Scott Kobos has 19 starts in 23 appearances. Alex Baratta has seen action in 19 games (16 starts) and Andrew Friedholm has appeared in 18 games (16 starts). On the mound, Jordan Carr has made six starts, while Eric Whitecavage has made 13 relief appearances, Austin Fahr and Zach Greene have eight appearances each and Brett Hyers appeared in six games.

 

About Presbyterian: Presbyterian is in the middle of a 12-game road trip, with a 3-5 record over the first eight games entering this weekend. The Blue Hose lead the Big South in hits per game (10.33) and rank third in home runs (17). They also rank second in opponent batting average (.252) and fourth in fielding percentage (.971).

Following this weekend's games, Asheville has a pair of midweek road contests next week, beginning with a Tuesday night trip to USC Upstate before a Wednesday matchup at UNC. The Bulldogs return home next weekend to host North Carolina Central, with the teams scheduled for a doubleheader next Saturday and a single game next Sunday.
