Patten Earns Big South Freshman of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –UNC Asheville Men's Tennis player, Henry Patten has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the conference announced this morning.

 

The UK native has posted impressive numbers in his debut season with Asheville. Patten boasts the top singles record (10-4) for the Bulldogs in 2016, including a current five match win-streak. The freshman has also enjoyed success on the doubles court, posting a team-high 12 wins with his partner, Josh Swindler.

 

Patten has picked up the pace for Asheville in Singles play, making a steady transition from the No. 3 to the No. 2 spot.  In Asheville's Wednesday win over Gardner-Webb, Patten closed out the match with a close (6-2, 7-6) victory on court two to give him his ninth individual win of the season, and Asheville the 5-2 victory at home.

 

Patten pushed his win total to double-digits with a Saturday singles win over conference foe Campbell University. Patten took the match in flight two (6-2, 6-4) to contribute to Asheville's 4-3 victory.  Patten and his partner, Josh Swindler also contributed two double wins to Asheville conference victories this week.

 

Patten and the Bulldogs are 7-7 on the season, and 3-2 in conference play, ranking them fourth overall in the Big South Conference. Asheville's next match will be this Friday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. when the Bulldogs host defending conference champion, Winthrop University at the Asheville Racquet Club.
