Bulldogs Collect Quarterfinal Victory Over Campbell; Advance to Saturday Semifinals

ASHEVILLE- The UNC Asheville Women's Basketball team defeated Campbell University 70-42 in the Big South Conference Championship quarterfinals to advance to the semifinal game to be played on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
The Bulldogs will face Presbyterian College, the winner of the second quarterfinal game of the day, in Kimmel Arena on Saturday at 2:00p.m.
THE TURNING POINT
Asheville came ready to play, jumping out to a quick 13-2 lead over the Camels. The Bulldogs would build their lead to as many as 13 points by the end of the first quarter. Asheville would not surrender the lead for the duration of the game. The Bulldogs maintained a consistent presence throughout the day, shooting 35 percent from the field and holding the Camels to only 40 points for a 28-point victory.
NOTABLES
-Asheville had three Bulldogs finishing with double-figures in the scoring column. Khaila Webb led the Bulldogs with 15 points on 50 percent shooting. She was joined by the Big South player of the year Chatori Major with 14 points, and second team All-Conference member Tianna Knuckles with 13 points.
-Campbell challenged Asheville down low, putting up 16 points in the paint to the Bulldogs' 15 points.
-Asheville out-rebounded Campbell 47-38. The Bulldogs pulled down 33 defensive boards and 14 offensive for seven second chance points. The Camels collected 12 offensive and 26 defensive rebounds on the afternoon. Bree Fitzgerald led Asheville off the glass with 10 rebounds.
-The Bulldogs' active hands on defense forced 20 Campbell turnovers to create 21 points. The Camels collected seven points off of 13 Asheville turnovers.
-Asheville built their first half lead on a foundation of threes. The Bulldogs went 8-for-15 from behind the arc to close the half with a 21-point lead over Campbell. The Bulldogs would bury one more in the second half to finish the game 9-of-24 (38 percent) from three-point range. Major led the Bulldogs in three-pointers, knocking down four-of-seven on the day.
- The last time a Bulldog team advanced to the Semifinal round was the 2006-07 campaign who went on to win the Big South Conference Tournament and play LSU in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
