FARMVILLE- The UNC Asheville Women's Basketball team defeated Longwood University on the road to pick up their twelfth conference win and remain in contention for first place in the Big South Conference.

 

THE TURNING POINT

Asheville controlled the lead for the majority of the game, never surrendering to the Lancers after the 6:48 mark in the second quarter. The Lancers whittled the Bulldog lead down to one point with 2:07 to play in the game. Asheville rallied behind three made free throws from Chatori Major to finish the game with a seven point advantage.

 

NOTABLES

- Asheville went 19-of-47 (40 percent) from the field and featured three Bulldogs in double-figures. Sophomore, Khaila Webb turned in a career-high 17 points off of 7-for-10 shooting against the Lancers, replacing her previous career-high of 16 points which she earned against Coastal Carolina University on March 3 of the 2014-15 season. Chatori Major added 11 points and Tianna Knuckles chipped in 10 points in the Bulldog victory.

 

- The Bulldogs controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Lancers 45-39. Asheville pulled down 33 defensive rebounds and 12 offensive rebounds that they converted to 14 second chance points.

 

- Asheville outscored Longwood in the paint (26-16) and produced 12 points off of eight Longwood turnovers.

 

- Longwood went 7-for-26 (27 percent) from behind the three-point line, bettering the Bulldogs' 2-for-16 (12.5 percent) from three-point range.

 

-Asheville and Liberty University are co-leaders of the Big South Conference with league records of 12-2. The Bulldogs and the Flames will face off on Saturday to decide who remains number one in the conference.
