ASHEVILLE – The UNC Asheville Women's Basketball team hosts Campbell University on Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. as the first part of a doubleheader with Men's Basketball facing Coastal Carolina immediately following the game.
Saturday will also be Senior Day for Asheville, where the Bulldogs will honor the program's two seniors, Paige Love and Tyler Smith.
NOTABLES
Head-to-Head: Saturday's contest will be the second time these two teams have met this season. In their first meeting, Asheville defeated Campbell (72-58) for their fourth straight conference win on January 2. The Bulldogs' victory was the first time that Asheville defeated Campbell since the Camels re-joined the Big South Conference in 2011.
Doubling Up- Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick is in her fourth year as head coach of the UNC Asheville women's basketball team. A win on Saturday would be the 22nd season win for Kirkpatrick and her staff, it would also match the number of combined wins from the previous three seasons. The Bulldogs have already matched the combined 14 Big South Conference wins from the past three seasons.
Back on Board: In Tuesday's game against Gardner-Webb, K.J. Weaver matched a career-best 15 points, and pulled down eight rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. The junior from Snellville, Georgia has been working back into the lineup after missing eight games in the front half of conference play due to injury. Weaver is the team's leading rebounder with 122 boards in 19 games played this season, averaging 6.4 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs.
QUOTABLES FROM HEAD COACH BRENDA MOCK KIRKPATRICK
On Campbell- “Tomorrow's game will be about getting back to UNC Asheville basketball. We took a break from that on Tuesday night and we all have a good idea of what led to our miscues and the loss against a very good Gardner-Webb team. Tomorrow will be another challenging Big South opponent in Campbell. They have had a lot of close games this year, play extremely hard and are well-coached. We need to focus on working together and enjoying the process again.”
On Senior Day- “In addition to a huge conference match-up we are honoring two amazing young women on our senior day. Tyler Smith and Paige Love have anchored the rebuilding process of this program and are the first graduating class that we have spent an entire four years with. They will be missed, but we are not saying goodbye tomorrow. Just thank you!”
