ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team hits the road for the first time this season, playing a pair of neutral site contests on Friday and Saturday afternoons before taking on Wofford to wrap up the weekend on Sunday.
The Bulldogs earned a win on Sunday over Ohio in the series finale, and will face Monmouth, Rider and Wofford. Monmouth played four games in Cary last weekend, while Rider opens its campaign in Spartanburg. Wofford has four home wins already under its belt.
Friday's game will be played on Wofford's campus and will feature Live Stats. Saturday's matchup take place at USC Upstate and Sunday's contest against Wofford will be at Wofford and will feature Live Stats and Live Video.
NOTABLES
Tietjen Starts Hot: Junior Joe Tietjen opened his season on a high note, collecting seven RBIs over the first three games. Tietjen, named to College Sports Madness' 2016 Big South Preseason All-Conference team, finished his weekend 4-11 at the plate with a double and solo home run in addition to his seven RBIs and two runs scored.
Name that Freshman: The Bulldogs saw 10 of their 11 freshmen appear in the opening series against Ohio, including having three position players and a pitcher appear in two games, while two position freshmen appeared in all three games.
Quick Look at the Opponents: Rider has a roster that features 21 of its 31 total players as either freshmen or sophomores … Monmouth and Wofford both bring back depth to the roster… Monmouth returns 26 players from last season, including 15 position players and 11 pitchers … Wofford has 28 returning players on its roster, including 14 pitchers.
