BOILING SPRINGS- The UNC Asheville Women's Basketball team's third quarter comeback effort wasn't enough to hold off Gardner-Webb, as the Runnin' Bulldogs collected their second win over Asheville this season. The Bulldogs drop to 14-3 in the Big South standings, but remain in first place, with Liberty University (13-4) one game behind in second place.
THE TURNING POINT
GWU came out quick, going six-of-six in the first five minutes for an early 15-6 lead over the Bulldogs. Asheville was able to tie the game for the first time with 1:19 to play in the third quarter. The two teams traded the lead and were deadlocked at 51 with 2:56 left to play in the game. Gardner-Webb's Tierra Huntsman knocked down two free throws to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a two-point lead with 1:39 to play. Over the final minute and a half, GWU extended their lead to six points to finish the game, 57-51.
NOTABLES
- Asheville went 21-of-54 (39 percent) from the field as a team. K.J. Weaver turned in 15 points on 64 percent shooting to lead the Bulldog offensive effort. This matches her career-high points, scored in last year's victory over Coastal Carolina. Weaver narrowly missed a double-double with eight rebounds. She also contributed two blocked shots and one assist on the night. Bree Fitzgerald and Chatori Major each added nine points.
- The Bulldogs struggled from beyond the three-point line, going two-of-eighteen (11 percent) from three-point range. Gardner-Webb went four-of-thirteen (31 percent) from beyond the arc, knocking down all four of their threes in the first half.
- Gardner-Webb won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Asheville, 47-33. The Bulldogs pulled down 14 offensive rebounds for 17 second chance points and collected 19 boards off of the defensive glass. K.J. Weaver led the Bulldogs in rebounding with eight boards.
- The Bulldogs forced 15 Gardner-Webb turnovers for 15 points. The Runnin' Bulldogs collected 12 points off of 14 Asheville turnovers.
-Asheville scored only nine points in the fourth quarter. This is Asheville's lowest scoring fourth quarter this season, replacing the previous low of 11 points at Winthrop on February first.

Following tonight's game, the Bulldogs will return home to Kimmel Arena to face Campbell University on Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. Saturday's game will also be Asheville's Senior Day where they will honor the program's two graduating seniors, Paige Love and Tyler Smith.
