ASHEVILLE – The UNC Asheville Women's Basketball team heads to Boiling Springs, N.C. where they look to avenge a loss to the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb University from earlier this season.
NOTABLES
On the Record-The Bulldogs continue to break records in the 2015-16 season, earning their 21st win on Tuesday over the Highlanders. This matches the most regular season wins by an Asheville campaign in the Division 1 Era set by the 2006-07 team.
Head-to-Head- GWU handed the Bulldogs one of their only two conference losses this season on Asheville's home court on January 16th. The Runnin' Bulldogs hit an inside jumper with under 45 seconds to play to produce a 58-56 victory. Since that loss to GWU, Asheville has put together an eight-game win streak for 14 total conference wins.
Bulldogs in the Big South-The Bulldogs are currently ranked first in the Big South Conference standings (14-2). They are separated by two games from the second place, Liberty University (12-4) after the Flames dropped a game to Coastal Carolina at home. Asheville has never won a regular season title since earning division 1 status, with the highest finish coming from the 2003-04 campaign who finished the regular season in second place.
QUOTABLES FROM HEAD COACH BRENDA MOCK KIRKPATRICK
On Gardner-Webb: "Gardner-Webb has proven they are one of the best teams in the league and have been almost unbeatable on their home court this year in conference. We are going to have to play tough in more than one area tomorrow night to make it a possession game. It was an exciting contest the first go round and I have no doubt it will be another great match-up in round two."
