Rocky's Readers Kicks Off Over Winter Break

12.15.2016 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Athletics is thrilled to announce that over 6,000 local students are registered to read with Rocky this winter.

The Rocky's Readers program presented by Zaxby's asks students to read five age appropriate books over the winter school break to earn a ticket to cheer on the UNC Asheville women's basketball team Jan. 14 against High Point.

For nearly ten years, students in Buncombe County have participated with their school in the Rocky's Readers program. All students who complete their reading and return their log to the school are invited to come to the game. The top schools are honored at halftime of the game. The UNC Asheville women's basketball team and other Bulldog student-athletes spend the month of December each year traveling to schools around the county introducing the program to the students and reminding them of the importance of reading daily.

If you are interested in participating, it is not too late. For the first time this year, elementary and intermediate school age students are able to register themselves for participation to earn a ticket to cheer on the Bulldogs. To register, please visit our online registration site.
