ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The UNC Asheville men's soccer squad dropped a 3-0 decision to the Radford Highlanders Wednesday night at Greenwood Field on Senior Night.

The Highlanders struck first when midfielder Jakob Strandsater found the back of the net in the 6th minute, assisted by Michael Walsh and Bismark Amofah.

Radford extended their lead in the 20th minute when Walsh scored one of his own, beating the Bulldogs' keeper Chris Katt, on an assist from Strandsater and Evan Szklennik.

The Bulldogs had their best chance of the match in the 83rd minute when Zach Joens was denied a goal by the post.

Momentum shifted back to the Highlanders less than a minute later when Strandsater scored his second goal of the night on a counter attack, assisted by Wyatt Erzen and Evan Szklennik.

Radford went on to win the match 3-0 and claim the Big South regular season championship for the third straight season.  Asheville finished third in the conference standings.

QUOTABLES

"It is disappointing to not come out on top tonight, but Radford is an excellent team and were the better squad tonight.  They play great defense and only allowed two conference goals all season.  However, we are proud of our team's effort.  At times we were able to push Radford, but unfortunately it wasn't enough tonight.  We have a quick turnaround and play Longwood Sunday who we had a very exciting matchup with earlier this season.  For us to earn the No. 3 seed it is a testament to the progress we have made but there is still a lot we want to accomplish and we are looking forward to the match on Sunday.  It was great to have the support of the community and university for our seniors tonight."—Head Coach Matt Mennell

UP NEXT:

The No. 3 seeded Bulldogs will host No. 6 seed Longwood at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6 at Greenwood Field in the Quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Tournament.  The winner of this match will advance to face the No. 2 High Point in the semifinals on November 9.
